At The Speed Of Light

“How far the little candle throws his beams!
So shines a good deed in a weary world.” … Shakespeare

***

Night skyWe are continually blessed with a night sky full of shining stars.

So why look down at your shoes when just a peek at the twinkling darkness invokes endless wonder, and boundless imagination. Your laces may be tied, but that’s of no matter when you’re travelling at 186,000 miles per second.

Distance appears infinite, incomprehensible, far from the grasp of my simple mind.

That’s ok. The universe requires nothing from me. I don’t have to understand. I don’t have to act. I very simply have to remember who I truly am.

To be honest I have yet to answer the many questions that come with a pursuit of self-discovery. I know that I am kind, generous and caring. I am also demanding, impatient and at times a cranky son of a gun.

And what is self-discovery anyway? The fact that every answer is not what comes to me, but rather what comes through me to others? Is the only real answer that my true purpose is to be of service to others?

I’m no saint, but I am a good person, and I am not alone.

God still loves me, in spite of my demanding side, and so should you. Not because I’m worthy of your undying love, but because God is within you, and God’s love is unconditional.

I also should love everyone I meet, irregardless of where they are in life. It is a very tough world we live in, and every kind word, every smile, every touch of the hand, every kiss on the lips, carries us above the turmoil and despair of a world gone astray.

And so comes the cliché, the world needs love now more than ever.

Why wait? Why hide behind our everyday lives when we have within us the tools to create something as grand as the universe we see in the night sky?

Look up from your laces. Embrace your imagination. Seek your own answers, and allow universal wisdom to flow through you.

No one is without this universal wisdom.

Is your smile shining brightly? Do you feel time slip away as you perceive twinkling stars that ceased to exist eons ago? Can you imagine traveling as far as your eyes can see?

If there is an edge of the Universe it is said to be 13 billion light years away. I can’t even begin to comprehend the enormity of distance such as this.

186,000 x 86,400 x 365 x 13,000,000,000 = WOW

Fortunately, nothing in my life requires that I do comprehend the vastness of what I see above me. Fortunately, I am the caretaker of a much smaller domain. One within my arm’s reach, yet one with the power to change a world.

I hope that if you ever look into my eyes that you’ll see beyond the edge of the Universe, because there truly is no end just endless beginnings. And I hope that with every chance to begin that I am given, I honor and cherish whoever you may be, because in that way I am who God created me to be.

Be kind. Be loving. Be a shining star in the night sky.

Be limitless in every moment, and momentous in every opportunity for goodness.

And smile, because someone very far away may be watching.
